Barcelona – Mobile World Congress 2021

The Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, and the CEO of the GSMA, John Hoffman, continue to make progress in the preparation of the new edition of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), to be held from 28 June to 1 July.

As reported by the City Council in a statement, Colau and Hoffman shared “the effort” being made by all the administrations, institutions and companies involved in the organisation of the event, which this year will be held in a combination of on-site and online formats.

MCW’21 will be “a reopening, a new dawn”.

After the suspension of the last edition due to the pandemic and at the expense of the epidemiological evolution, John Hoffman assured that “the recovery phase is beginning” and that “Mobile arrives in this recovery phase and we are going to accommodate everyone, but we have to start and we are going to start now, and we will do it”.

In his latest remarks Hoffman acknowledged that “I don’t know about you, but I’m getting tired of video calls” and therefore said that MCW’21 will be a moment of reunion and that “it will be a reopening, a new dawn”. “The approach is simple: innovate or die,” he said.
